This is an assignment for my Composition & Literature (English) class. We were instructed to write whatever came to mind in whichever form we chose (in essay, poem, short story, etc.) based on these words: “Looking at each other.”

I chose to write a poem, and this is what I came up with…

Looking At Each Other

I can see myself reflected in his dark eyes

Mirrors that disguise and betray no other thought

They hide away all but love

He can see himself reflected in my dark eyes

Spheres that hide but search

While looking at each other

What do we expect to find.

… and now for my issues. I think this is still a work-in-progress. Not only does it sound a little repetitive, i get the feeling that the picture I am trying to paint here is lacking some depth. I’ve also asked a couple friends to look it over for me, and they agree.

So basically, this assignment has now become yet another project for me to play with. I’d like to see how farther I can go with this.

Hello, something different. Hello, Middlemarch!

I reread the very last chapter of Wuthering Heights on the train this morning. Why? It’s just something I do on the way to returning every good Library book I’ve finished. A way to keep a pleasant memory fresh, perhaps. I guess some might also be wondering why I even bother to make Library runs in this day and age, with many newfangled reading tablets out there it seems pretty unnecessary, right?

Wrong!

Besides traditional habit, human interaction is a must and should be treasured at all cost! The Library still exists for community purposes… such is my opinion.

Anyway

I went to my college’s Library intent on finding something I’ve never read before and was successful when I came across “Middlemarch” A Victorian novel by Mary Anne Evans under the pen name “George Eliot.”

Based on a brief skim of the introduction, my hopes are very high. I can’t wait to start reading the train ride home!

About Wuthering Heights: Wuthering Heights is an 1847 romance tragedy about a love between childhood friends that, ill-fated from the start, led to the sad demise of two families.

I’ve just finished reading “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte. It is my second look at this title since Highschool, and I’ve come to find that my love for the romantic hero, “Heathcliff,” remains unchanged.

Why?

I guess because I have yet to find another like him, a twisted character that is difficult to fully understand, and yet is understandable… make sense? Actually, some might think “twisted” is the wrong word to use here, but I am saying that to reference his confusing behavior. Was he vengeful in the name of love? Or was that just an excuse for his bitter feelings since childhood?

It is going to take me a while to properly summarize my thoughts on this novel, but I can say that it is a welcome experience for those of us who are familiar with and enjoy the struggle of love through the scorn of social hierarchy, and bitter rejection, and how these themes are still relevant in tales of romance and love lost today.

Notes: The song “Black Guitar” by Blonde Redheads reminds me of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff’s relationship. Probably because I like to imagine what both were thinking when they first encountered each other at Thrushcross Grange after spending some years apart ♥.

I think there’s something fishy about the whole ‘the Uchiha were totes planning a coup’ thing. I think Danzo deliberately engineered hostility by making Sarutobi ask utterly unreasonable things of the clan, and was waiting for their patience with the village to run out. He gained far too much from their deaths for him to not have had anything to do with it.

Ugh…

I sure hope I am not the only writer who absolutely HATES the occurrence of “as” more than once between two, or three paragraphs even. It’s like Hyper Text Markup Language (html) for me… there’s that one mistake that makes the whole code fall apart, and when I fail to find a way around it, I might seriously consider grinding my knuckles into my scalp!

Frustrating!
